Upcoming Albums

Upcoming Albums – January, 14th

Here are Metal Utopia’s most anticipated albums of the week!

Leon is looking forward to Descent’s Order of Chaos, Ereb Altor’s Vargtimman, and Aethereus’ Leiden:

Descent – Order of Chaos

It’s interesting how in the past few years a new attempt at fusing death metal and hardcore appeared with very little references to deathcore. Bands like Xibalba, Fuming Mouth, and of course, Descent. The style always delivers a proper bone-crushing experience, and Descent wield it well.

Ereb Altor – Vargtimman

It was interesting seeing Ereb Altor start with their viking brand of epic doom, only to slowly add black metal elements, yet never being fully consumed by them. Over 8 albums now they retained their unique spirit, and 9 seems to follow that path.

Aethereus – Leiden

It’s good ol’ modern tech death. Doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but does its job pretty well.

Rutger is looking forward to Mizmor’s Wit’s End, and Wiegedood’s There’s Always Blood at the End of the Road:

Mizmor – Wit’s End

Though the title track (with video) already premiered last year at Roadburn Redux, Mizmor releases his new two track EP this Friday. I’m curious to hear what the full EP will sound like.

Wiegedood – There’s Always Blood at the End of the Road

After their magisterial trilogy, De doden hebben het goed I, II, and III, Belgian black metal band Wiegedood release their fourth full-length this friday. The singles have been promising, so I’m looking forward to hearing the full record.
