Upcoming Albums – February, 1st

These are Metal Utopia’s most anticipated albums of the week!

JP is looking forward to Astronoid’s Astronoid:

Astronoid – Astronoid

It has felt like an eternity since the debut LP Air was released back in 2016. This band seamlessly creates such a mesmerizing soundscape with their dreamy blackgaze sound although the vocals are all clean. Air was such a captivating experience and I expect nothing less from Astronoid’s sophomore LP!

Joey is looking forward to Ossuarium ‘s Living Tomb:

Ossuarium – Living Tomb

The first release from last year’s label kings 20 Buck Spin. Ossuarium is a death doom band from Portland and are here to stake their claim in the scene. The singles have been absolutely disgusting in the best way and I have high hopes for this record. If they have improved upon their EP this album will be crushing.

Leon is looking forward to Der Rote Milan’s Moritat, Pensées Nocturnes’s Grand Guignol Orchestra, and Within Temptation’s Resist:

Der Rote Milan – Moritat

Starts with a calm ambient bit then turns into some seriously hard hitting stuff. Melodic tremolo riffs a-plenty. Dense, soaring production. They immediately list Alcest, Dark Funeral, Dissection as their influences, so you know what you’re in for. And it seems to work pretty well.

Pensées Nocturnes – Grand Guignol Orchestra

How do you go from some of the best depressive black metal on your first record to twisted carnival metal on your sixth? I’ve no clue. I admit it’s well composed and played, but I can’t take it seriously. I you’re into avantgarde metal, give it a shot.

Within Temptation – Resist

Well, I don’t know if it’s still worth caring about Within Temptation (or if it ever was). It’s basically pop music at this point, but I guess their brand of symphonic metal/rock still has an audience.

Rutger is looking forward to Soen’s Lotus:

Soen – Lotus

Lykaia, Soen’s latest record, released in 2017 was a great record. The singles Soen has already released are very promising, so I’m really excited for how the entire album will be!
