Jared is looking forward to:
Some grinding death metal out of Portland, with a silly little man on the cover, who they’ve affectionately named “Drippy”.
Icelandic folk/black metal. Exactly my kind of thing.
Epic doom featuring ex-My Dying Bride members. Their debut from 2020 was really good, so I’ve been looking forward to this for a while.
Nathan is looking forward to:
Season of Mist hit again. If you like past Horrendous albums, this is a must-listen, and if you don’t you should really try them again because this band is great. This is death metal that ventures away from the rigid confines of what death metal is sometimes restrained to be.
I had no expectations and was still confused. This is an album that demands your time, and is engaging enough to deserve it right out of the gate. There’s probably a bunch of stuff with this that I’m missing because I haven’t listened to it enough yet, but that will be rectified.
There have been a surprising number of 2-song black metal EPs running over 20 minutes that are worth listening to. Throw this one on the pile, after giving it a shot.
Calling this “melodic death metal” understates the record. For when Fleshgod Apocalypse and Septicflesh aren’t enough.
