Album of the Month

Albums of the Month October 2024

Our favorite releases of October 2024:

Jared:

Black Curse – Burning in Celestial Poison

Denver, Colorado supergroup Black Curse, consisting of members of Khemmis, Primitive Man, Spectral Voice, and now Spirit Possession, return to follow up their outstanding 2020 output with another brutally heavy slab of black/death metal. Screeching guitars, bellowing howls, and crushing riffs fill this record in a destructive cacophony.

Matthew:

Blood Incantation – Absolute Elsewhere

Absolute Elsewhere has taken the metal world by storm, cementing Blood Incantation’s legacy as one of the death metal greats. Simply put, Absolute Elsewhere is death metal for people who don’t like death metal. But don’t let that description fool you. Death metal elitists will find plenty to sink their teeth into. Beyond the guest appearance from Tangerine Dream and the myriad prog elements evoking a second coming of Pink Floyd, walls of sheer crushing sound rise unapologetically from the cosmic abyss. Prepare to have your mind melted in the best way possible.

Nathan:

Von Hertzen Brothers – In Murmuration

Finnish prog rockers Von Hertzen Brothers released their ninth full length last month. While this release, In Murmuration, isn’t the pinnacle of their career, there are plenty of exciting moments for every listener. Slapping together barnstorming riffs, progressive song structures, blending saxophone solos with energizing rock beats and choruses, Von Hertzen Brothers are still making great music a quarter century in.
