Here are our favorite releases of July 2024:
Matthew:
Melodic black metal from Sweden. It’s always exciting to me to support underground bands who produce quality music.
Nathan:
Still a shiver-inducing album. Sinister death/doom from Everlasting Spew that has enough guitar tone and eerie atmosphere to carry you through to the end of the year.
Now that some time has passed, these brutal death giants have released something untouchable. I never thought the genre could be so clean and accessible, while still being uncompromising and unfriendly. An incredible achievement from a band that can’t miss.
Splits can be risky, but Diskord and ATVM manage to complement each other perfectly here. Some sharp and hard-hitting death metal is on display, as these two bands both managed to use each others’ weirdness as a stepping stone. It’s a shame that splits don’t get more attention because this one deserves it.
I can’t stop thinking about Todesstoss. On first listen I wasn’t too impressed, but this odd approach to black metal left an impact. This isn’t even avant-garde, it’s just operating on a different level than the rest of the genre.
