Our favorite releases of August 2024:
Jared:
The Godzilla band leveled up on their newest release, putting out some of the hardest-hitting death/thrash I’ve heard in a while. These guys knocked it out of the park.
Nathan:
Nails are a cold-fury band. They spent 8 years for just under 18 minutes, and the result is that this album is exhausting to listen to even at this short run-length.
The chorus to Opera‘s first proper track “I Can Never Die” has not left my poor brain since the first time I listened. Fleshgod Apocalypse know how to write grandiose moments, and while their songwriting and production may have tightened up a bit, the band’s vision as as in-the-sky as ever.
This one sounds like it looks. Concrete Winds, released on Sepulchral Voice Records, is an insane whirlwind of messy notes and over-the-top crescendos. This is one of the most ridiculous, biting releases of the year, and one of the best accomplishments.
