Here are our favorite releases of August 2023:
Rick:
Not quite as excellent as Enlightened In Eternity, Ghost At The Gallows is still a great work. Southern rock atmospheres meet doom and heavy metal, creating the musical equivalent of a dust storm engulfing one’s ear. The perfect soundtrack to the conjuction between the suffocating heat of August, and the incoming rains of September.
Jared:
These teenagers out of Minneapolis put together an absolute ripper of a death metal album, taking after the creative and far-reaching styles of late-era Death, Atheist, and others.
Matthew:
I’m always on the lookout for new Tolkien-inspired bands. Theoden’s Reign is atmospheric black metal in the vein of Summoning. Prepare your ears for a mystical journey through some of your favorite haunts in Middle-earth.
Nathan:
This album won’t be a surprise to any fans of the band, and is a great jumping in point for anyone looking for some proggy yet concise death metal. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Idol but Ontological Mysterium hits in a deeper, more precise manner.
