Album of the Month – September, 2020

Every month we collect our favorite albums of the month. Here’s the playlist with our favorite songs:

And here are our favorite albums of September:

Sean:

Uada – Djinn

With their third release Uada prove that they are among the best in the black metal scene at the moment. Djinn continues to build off of the sound the band has been known for, incorporating even more melody and really focusing on song structure. While most black metal these days focuses on being raw and inaccessible to the average listener, Uada seem to have set out to create an album that can please everyone from the most Kvlt dude you know to the casual metal fan. The riifs on this album are damn near perfect and its songs are infectious, getting stick in your head as if they were some catchy pop song.

Leon:

The Ocean – Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic/Cenozoic

It was a long wait, but it was worth it. It’s not just a continuation of Phanaerozoic I with the same style, but its entirely own thing with a lot of bold experiments which pay off much more often than not”.

Matthew:

Jupiterian – Protosapien

Jupiterian play an intriguing mix of death, doom, and sludge metal. As the band name suggests, their most recent offering Protosapien is a slab of sci-fi tinged metal that lingers long after the final note pierces your eardrums. Honestly, their entire back catalogue is worth checking out as well.

Rutger:

Deftones – Ohms

As opposed to some of the other bands that I listened to in my teenage years, I still enjoy Deftones’ new music. Instead of forcefully sticking with their original nu-metal sound, Deftones have kept evolving their music, experimenting with both sound and song structure. Ohms is a great follow-up to Gore, with a perfect balance between heavy and tranquil passages. Highly recommended!

Nathan:

The Ocean – Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic/Cenozoic

The Ocean continue their roll of amazing albums, with Phanerozoic II living up to its predecessor. The expansive, heavy prog contains no dull moments.
