Every month we collect our favorite albums of the month. Here’s the playlist with our favorite songs:
And here are our favorite albums of May:
JP:
I: Voice is a mindblowing record in more ways than one. There are so many different styles and influences as well as guest features found all over this record that are nothing short of stunning. Words cannot describe how mesmerizing this album is.
Elias:
It’s a more direct approach to the pop laden progressive metal of their past album. It’s upbeat while maintaining technicality and a very fun listen.
Leon:
Love at first sight. Ugly love, but still passionate.
Rutger:
The wine-loving, Satan-worshipping black metal artist, best known from Gorgoroth, has released an album with his solo project. It’s got haunting melodies, atmospheric passages, but also classic black metal sections. Definitely a contender for the Album Of The Year!
Ethan:
Death/Doom has been done to death, and this is its reanimated body. A four-piece from California that use incredible horror movie samples to open their flawless songs. Coming out from Caligari Records on cd and a great sounding tape; so far it is my favorite release of the year.
Shankar:
Deathspell Omega is legendary amongst all circles of metal for their secrecy, impenetrable metaphysical approach to lyrics, and fantastic black metal. The Furnace of Palingenesia is the grand accumulation of all of their previous work wrapped up nicely in a very tasteful album. Deathspell Omega are masters of their craft, and this album is a professional black metal album. The Furnace of Palingenesia is a gauntlet thrown to unworthy opponents, and no one will meet their challenge for the foreseeable future.
Joey:
This is almost all I have listened to this month. It hasn’t left my turntable, and the abrupt ending back into burning myrrh on digital is very addictive. Full of Hell have outdone themselves. If you’re reading this and you somehow still haven’t heard the album, go fix that.
Hannes:
More accessible than their previous records. Sounds more mature and less overwhelming than King. It’s still epic and furious, but there’s also more calm elements and beautiful melodies. Definitely my favorite Fleshgod album!
Connor:
Berserker is more of the same from the Melodic Death veterans in Amon Amarth, but it’s also one of their strongest releases in years.
“The demo was better.”
