Every month we collect our favorite albums of the month. Here’s the playlist with our favorite songs:
And here are our favorite albums of January:
Rutger:
Vvilderness’ 2017 debut album, Devour The Sun has been one of my go-to feelgood records since I discovered it, so when I heard he was going to release a second album, I was super excited. And damn, what a good record! It still has the same vibe as the first one, but with a lot of new aspects, highly recommended!
JP:
This record is truly something special. Naiv seamlessly blends so many different styles of music into this perfect concoction of infectious groove and rhythm. It really has everything, from black metal to jazz, folk, electronic and so on. The wide variety of sounds never once feels gimmicky or overdone, as it truly is a masterful display of musicianship.
Ethan:
Unusual and nightmarish Black/Death Metal that incorporates elements from other genres that you wouldn’t expect out of nowhere. The Black/Death Metal at the center is strong enough to anchor the weirdness no matter how far out it goes. Bile of Man Reborn is one long track that never gets boring, and you need to check it out if you’re looking for something different from the cookie cutter crap.
Leon:
This is one of those albums in which you discover new details on each listen. Or you can skip listening attentively and let the chaos consume your mind. Either way is totally legit for listening to this great record.
Brodie:
An outrageous and entertaining album all the way through, carrying with it a bouncy and rhythmic energy that only thrash veterans like Annihilator can bring.
Rick:
Half an hour of restless black rock’n’roll/thrash, for a bone-shattering, teeth-clenching brutal album, that turns out to be extremely fun too. In its simplicity, and without sacrificing sound quality, this release manages to be even refreshing.
Matthew M:
California-based heavy metal band Haunt is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. Three albums in three years — and all of it is phenomenal. Mind Freeze will hold you hostage with its captivating choruses, driving melodies, and surging guitar riffs. This is some quality metal that you don’t want to miss!
Hannes:
This is death/doom how it’s supposed to be. Earth-shattering vocals, slow riffs, perfect guitar texture, and an overall great sense of rhythm make this debut record a must listen if you’re a fan of slow, heavy music.
